Israel is Burning!

999999According to the Telegraph:

“Israel’s government has accused arsonists of sparking half of a wave of wildfires that has paralysed parts of the country and forced 60,000 people to evacuate from their homes. The flames began on Tuesday but have grown more powerful because of dry weather and strong winds and by Thursday fires were raging inside the port city of Haifa. No one has been killed by the fires but several dozen people were taken to hospital and eight neighbourhoods were evacuated inside Haifa, a city of 270,000 people.

Gilad Erdan, the public security minister, said half of the roughly 200 fires has been “deliberately set”. Police said they were investigating several potential arson sites but that their main focus was on putting out the fires and carrying out evacuations. Within the febrile context of the Middle East, the fires quickly became politicised. The hashtag “Israel is burning” began to trend in several neighbouring Arab countries like Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.”

As you know, our Dry Bones cartoons fight against antisemitism and BDS. We distribute these Dry Bones cartoons through many channels, at no charge to our readers, but our operation costs us an annual $100,000. So how can we find this annual $100,000? We then thought of “the 36”. The Lamed Vavnikim. Let me explain. Medieval Jewish mystics wrestled with a baffling question; “Given the wickedness of humanity and the cruelty of the world, why doesn’t an angry Creator simply destroy his creation?” Pouring over both Biblical and “hidden” texts they deduced that in every generation there are 36 people, hidden from view, whose righteousness prevents the divine destruction of our world. In the Hebrew numerological system, the two Hebrew letters Lamed and Vav, written as a word, represents the number 36. And so the hidden righteous “thirty-sixers” who save the world are called the Lamed Vavnikim.

So how will we raise our annual budget of $100,000?
The answer is simple. But the search is difficult. We need to find our Thirty Sixers. . . . our “Lamed Vavnikim”. Thirty Six righteous people who would each give us $3,000 a year to help turn this often wicked world into “a better place” (Tikun Olam).

Dry Bones- Israel’s Political Comic Strip Since 1973

The “Virtuous” New Nazis

Meet the packs of new Nazis, posing as Righteousness and Virtue, pursuing new exterminationist policies against Israel and, right after that, the Jews.

“In Nazi Germany,” noted Brendan O’Neill in the Wall Street Journal, “it was all the rage to make one’s town Judenfrei.”

“Now a new fashion is sweeping Europe: to make one’s town or city what we might call ‘Zionistfrei’ — free of the products and culture of the Jewish state. Across the Continent, cities and towns are declaring themselves ‘Israel-free zones,’ insulating their citizens from Israeli produce and culture. It has ugly echoes of what happened 70 years ago.”

The Nazis said “kauft nicht bei Juden“: do not buy from Jews. The slogan of these new racists is “kauft nicht beim Judenstaat“: do not buy from the Jewish State. The Nazis repeated “Geh nach Palästina, du Jud“: Go to Palestine, you Jew. Racists in Europe shout “Jews out of Palestine!”

Let us take a look at who they are. The city council of Leicester, for one, recently approved banning products “made in Israel.” Think of that: a city without Israeli products. This is not Nazi Germany in 1933; this is a British city under Labour leadership in 2016. Two Welsh councils, Swansea and Gwynedd, blocked commercial partnerships with Israeli companies. In Dublin, a well-known restaurant, Exchequer, decided not to use the Israeli products. The Irish town of Kinvara became “Israel-free”. In Spain, the town of Villanueva de Duero no longer distributes Israeli water in its public buildings. The French city of Lille froze an agreement with the Israeli town of Safed.

BDS at UNESCO

999999

The BDS rewriting of history has infected the United Nations.
George Orwell’s famous quote from his prophetic work 1984 pointing out that “those who control the present control the past, and that those who control the past control the future” has never been so frighteningly obvious and blatant a threat as now.
According to HaArets:
UNESCO Poised to Pass Resolution Casting Doubt on Jewish Ties to Temple Mount
“Israel attempts to convince as many states as possible to oppose the resolution, but only few are swayed; Foreign Ministry issues brochure proving historic affiliation between the Jews and Jerusalem.

The 58 members of UNESCO are expected to vote Thursday on an anti-Israeli resolution that disregards Judaism’s historic connection to the Temple Mount and casts doubt on the link between Judaism and the Western Wall. The resolution is expected to pass by a large majority. Israel has made efforts to block the resolution or at least soften it, but succeeded only in swaying the positions of a few member states.
The resolution proposal, which condemns Israel on several issues regarding Jerusalem and its holy sites, was advanced by the Palestinians alongside Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Sudan. The draft resolution, a copy of which was obtained by Haaretz, asserts that Jerusalem is holy to the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. However, it includes a special section dealing with the Temple Mount, which says the site is sacred only to Muslims and fails to mention that it is sacred to the Jews as well. In fact, it mentions neither the Hebrew term for the site – Har HaBayit – nor its English equivalent, the Temple Mount. The site is referred to only by its Muslim names – Al-Aqsa Mosque and Haram al-Sharif.”-more

San Francisco State: A Haven For Supporters of Terrorists

Last night, the David Horowitz Freedom Center brought its Stop the Jew Hatred on Campus poster campaign to San Francisco State University, a campus that is notorious for its glorification of anti-Israel terrorism and anti-Semitism.

San Francisco State University (SFSU) has repeatedly enabled the most extreme actions of its General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS), a group closely resembling Students for Justice in Palestine, once led by SJP founder Hatem Bazian. This past April, GUPS disrupted a speech by the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, by shouting exhortations to terrorist violence and succeeded in curtailing his address. The demonstrators shouted “Intifada,” a call for terrorism against Israel, and chanted “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” a call for the obliteration of the Jewish state. The former president of GUPS wrote dozens of social media posts threatening violence to pro-Israel students, Israelis, the IDF and others. He also praised Hamas and the violent Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

GUPS holds annual Israeli Apartheid Weeks which demonize Israel as an apartheid state and commemorate the founding of Israel as “al-Nakba” or “the catastrophe.” The faculty advisor for GUPS, Prof. Rabab Abdulhadi, met with terrorists Leila Khaled and Sheikh Raed Salah during a university-funded trip to the Middle East. (Khaled is a convicted hijacker and a member of the terrorist organization, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and Sheikh Raed Salah has been repeatedly jailed on charges of incitement to terrorist violence.) When questioned about the trip, San Francisco State administrators denied that Abdulhadi’s trip was an improper use of university funds. Abdulhadi also helped to broker a formal collaboration between SFSU and An-Najah National University in Palestine, which is known for its recruitment of students as cadre for Hamas and as suicide bombers.

Are Jews who refuse to renounce Israel being excluded from “progressive” groups?

Hard left activists are trying to exclude Jews who do not renounce Israel from “progressive” organizations.

Last year, Rabbi Susan Talve, a longtime activist on race issues in the St. Louis area was told that her advocacy for Israel was incompatible with the objectives of Black Lives Matter: “Solidarity from Ferguson to Palestine has become a central tenet of the movement” she was informed, because “Israeli and U.S. state oppression are deeply interconnected.” Similarly, a student who attended a Black Lives Matter rally at Northwestern University last year was told “you support Israel, so you cannot also support us.”

Recently, that seems to be the response of many of the hard left activists who dominate so-called “progressive” social justice movements.

Over the past several years, progressive Jews, and progressive supporters of Israel have had to come to terms with the reality that those who do not reject Israel and accept Boycott Divestment Sanctions (“BDS”) and its unique brand of bigotry are no longer welcome in some progressive circles. And while both Democratic and Republican parties have embraced the importance of the U.S. alliance with Israel, that dynamic is under threat more so than at any point in my lifetime.

The Battle at Berkeley

999999According to the Algemeiner : Antisemitic posters have been appearing around the University of California, Berkeley campus ever since a course exploring how Israel might be destroyed was first suspended and then reinstated early last week.

One of the offending posters referred to the coalition of 43 Jewish, civil rights and educational organizations that had written a letter expressing concern about the course and disappointment in UC Berkeley’s vetting process, calling the groups “advocates for a foreign state” who “seek to control our freedom of speech and academic expression.”

UC Berkeley said it rescinded the suspension of the course last week after its syllabus was purportedly changed. However, a close examination of the new syllabus revealed only minor changes, and found that the same anti-Zionist literature will be studied as previously listed.

According to a 2016 report by campus watchdog group the AMCHA Initiative, opposition to Israel’s right to exist saw a dramatic rise across college campuses in the first half of 2016, with “an almost three-fold increase” compared to the same time period in 2015.
