“It is outrageous and appalling of Nike to allow the name of God on a shoe. This is disrespectful and extremely offensive to Muslims and insulting to Islam. Islam teaches compassion, kindness and fairness towards all.”
No, it doesn’t. It teaches the inferiority of women and non-Muslims, and mandates warfare against unbelievers.
But what is the point of all this ridiculous outrage over a shoe? Do any Muslims seriously believe that Nike meant to put the name of Allah on the bottom of a shoe? The way Allah is written in Arabic letters, you can start seeing it anywhere if you want to. What is really going on here is revealed when the story below recounts the last time Muslims did this to Nike, in 1997: “Nike promised to “tighten scrutiny of logo design” and committed to upgrading sporting facilities at an American Islamic elementary school.”
Ah, so it’s about shaking down Nike for more free stuff. And reinforcing the principle that everyone, no matter how rich and powerful, must kowtow to Muslim demands when Muslims are enraged.
