Fishmongers furious as EU fines them for not using LATIN names of fish

Fines of hundreds of pounds were slapped on the French fishmongers operating in the tourist Vieux-Port area of Marseille after apparently breaching EU policy.

The Brussels diktat says the scientific, Latin names of fish breeds are required to be displayed to offer consumers better information about what they eat.

EU Regulation No 1370/2013 states that “the commercial designation of the species and its scientific name” must be shown whenever a fish is sold.

The rule was applied in 2013 but is rarely enforced.

Please send me, as a comment to this page, any old material you have for inclusion in The Daily Joke Alert - to help enable us all to have our fancy tickled regularly! Never mind the state it's in as I tidy everything up prior to publication. Don't let good material go to waste - and so much does. In the interests of the environment we should always try to re-cycle everything, especially jokes. You know that makes sense! You may find some historical stuff here, but this does not really matter as humor is fairly timeless.
