A Jewish Poker Club

1Six retired Jewish mates were playing poker in the condo clubhouse when Meyer loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table.

Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continue playing, but standing up to do so.

At the end of the game, Finklestein looks around and asks, “So, who’s gonna tell his wife?”

They cut the cards. Goldberg picks the low card and has to carry the news. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don’t make a bad situation any worse.

“Discreet? I’m the most discreet person you’ll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name. Leave it to me.”

Goldberg goes over to the Meyer’s condo and knocks on the door. The wife answers through the door and asks what he wants?

Goldberg declares: “Your husband just lost $500 in a poker game and is afraid to come home.”

“Tell him to drop dead!” yells the wife.

“I’ll go tell him.” says Goldberg

Israeli-Palestinian peace movement update

Dear Kitty. Some blog

This video from Israel says about itself:

Mind of peace- Negotiating Israelis and Palestinians with no leaders in the room…

Today, an e-mail says:

Minds of Peace Grassroots Israel-Palestinian negotiations continue  in Jerusalem

November 14-15 New Location: Horse Square, Jerusalem, Israel

Despite considerable extreme-right violence on the previous occasion, Minds of Peace is continuing its campaign of grassroots Israel-Palestinian negotiations, held on the streets and public squares of Jerusalem between Israelis and Palestinians who are not professional diplomats – so as boost and promote the faltering official negotiations.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the most entrenched conflicts in the world with disastrous consequences for all the people involved. Many substantial peace-making initiatives have been carried out but have failed to produce a lasting peace.  The 22nd session of the Minds of Peace Mini Congress illuminated the stark differences between two sides.  Not the two sides at the negotiating table…

UK 2013: Police, Government and Party all singing from the same hymn sheet

The Slog

I’m sick of being told “parallels with 1984 are risible”

orwellRemember: he wrote those words 65 years ago

Earlier yesterday I posted about the inability of Chief Constables to grasp the fear decent citizens of all ages have about the growing incidence of feral behaviour among Underclass offspring. Their lack of willingness to get their knees brown on this issue is providing the obvious excuse for Camerlot to produce legislation that gives any present or future government the right to keep us all in metaphorical chains.

The UK Government is about to pass legislation which will make any behaviour perceived to potentially ‘cause nuisance or annoyance’ a criminal offence. The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill also grants local authorities, police and even private security firms sweeping powers to bar citizens from assembling lawfully in public spaces. The Bill has successfully passed through the House of Commons without issue, and…

Useful info for frequent travellers.

Are you travelling? Grab a refrigerator magnet on your way out the door!

Always take a small magnet on your vacation , they come in handy at the end of every stop.

This is pretty good info. Never even thought about key cards containing anything other than an access code for the room!

HOTEL KEY CARDS1

Ever wonder what is on your magnetic key card?

Answer:

a. Customer’s name

b. Customer’s partial home address

c. Hotel room number

d. Check-in date and out dates

e. Customer’s credit card number and expiration date!

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the hotel scanner.. An employee can take a hand full of cards home and using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until an employee reissues the card to the next hotel guest. At that time, the new guest’s information is electronically ‘overwritten’ on the card and the previous guest’s information is erased in the overwriting process.

But until the card is rewritten for the next guest, it usually is kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR INFORMATION ON IT!

The bottom line is: Keep the cards, take them home with you, or destroy them. NEVER leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn them into the front desk when you check out of a room. They will not charge you for the card (it’s illegal) and you’ll be sure you are not leaving a lot of valuable personal information on it that could be easily lifted off with any simple scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you still have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it in an airport trash basket. Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the electronic information strip!

If you have a small magnet, pass it across the magnetic strip several times. Then try it in the door, it will not work. It erases everything on the card.
