World’s Largest Four Stroke Gas Engine

Ankit Shah's Blog

Instead of powering most of cars we see on the street today, there are some unusual four-stroke engines. The size of these engines may vary strongly, from small domestic engines that power electric generators through regular automotive engines and reaching enormous sizes inside some power plants.

The largest four-stroke gas engine in the world is exactly of the last kind – 18V50SG constructed by the Finnish company Wärtsilä. As the model name shows, there are 18 cylinders with 50 cm diameter nested within 18,6 m long and 396 tons heavy body. The beast produces more than 25 000 hp and is supposed to “eat” natural gas. However, there is a modification capable of using different fuel types – Wärtsilä 50DF, which also could be “fed” with heavy or light fuel oil.

The engine uses lean-burn technology, which simply explained means that air is more than fuel inside…

Petition to Keep the Pressure on Iran

During his recent speech at the UN, Iran\’s new president Hassan Rouhani spoke of the hope for \”dialogue over conflict” and “moderation over extremism.\”

Iran\’s actions, including installing over 1000 new centrifuges capable of rapidly creating weapons-grade uranium from low-grade uranium, and its refusal allow UN inspectors access to Iran’s nuclear sites, reflect a violent agenda that speaks louder than Rouhani\’s words of peace.

Senior Iranian officials have openly declared that “Iran’s nuclear activities continue as in the past”, and that Iran is “continuing the enrichment of uranium to the 20 percent level.\” Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Iran’s improvements to its nuclear program will enable it to “jump to 90% enrichment within weeks.\”

A report by the U.S. Institute for Science and International Security concluded that with its current stockpiles, Iran could produce enough uranium for a nuclear bomb within one month.

President Obama and world leaders are considering easing sanctions on Iran due to Rouhani’s ‘moderate’ tone. The real decision-maker is Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. He is the one who initiated former Iranian president Ahmadinejad’s call for the destruction of the State of Israel.

Israel\’s very existence is at stake. There is no bargaining over Israel\’s existence. While dialogue is important, there can be no meaningful discussion with leaders who are committed to the destruction of Israel. The Jewish People cannot and will not be threatened with another Holocaust.

Now is NOT the time for easing sanctions on Iran. The international community must keep the pressure on Iran by imposing harsher sanctions and demanding that its nuclear program be completely dismantled. A nuclear Iran is a threat not only to Israel but to the entire free world.

Falcon Nesting In A Tree

I’ve received many remarkable nature photographs over the years but this photo from Australia of a nesting Falcon is perhaps the most remarkable nature shot that I’ve ever seen.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Nature is truly breath-taking!

Rav Ovadia Yosef lives in BBC profile of Israel’s political parties

BBC Watch

An article originally titled “Lieberman cleared of corruption” – later amended to “Israel politician Lieberman cleared of corruption” – appeared very rapidly on the Middle East page of the BBC News website after news of the court’s verdict was made public on the morning of November 6th.

Accompanying that article were three additional items of suggested reading for visitors to the website: an obviously quickly updated profile of Avigdor Lieberman himself, a link to the BBC’s “Israel profile” and an item titled “Guide to Israel’s political parties”.

In their haste to get that article (which originally dates from January 2013) onto the webpage, BBC News editors had clearly not noticed that one of its entries is a month out of date, apparently forgetting that they themselves published an obituary for Rav Ovadia Yosef a month ago on the same Middle East page.

Palestinians: We Do Not Trust The Americans

As U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry embarks on a fresh mission to prevent the collapse of the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, the Palestinian Authority [PA] appears to be doing its utmost to internationalize the conflict with Israel.

The Palestinians want other international parties, especially the European Union, United Nations and Russia, to play a major role in the current U.S.-sponsored peace talks.

They perceive these parties as being more sympathetic to, and supportive of, the Palestinians.

The PA\’s biggest fear is that Washington will try to impose a solution that would certainly fail to win the backing of most Palestinians and Arabs.
