Gold production has more than doubled in Burkina Faso in recent years. But that boom has led to a increase in the employment of child laborers in small, artisanal mines. In collaboration with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, photojournalist Larry C. Price recently visited several communities to document the conditions.

Protests rise against ruler’s bid to go on

BURKINA FASO: Thousands of people marched through Ouagadougou today [28 July 2013] to oppose President Compaore’s bid to extend his rule by creating a new senate.

Opposition leaders fear it will be used to scrap the two-term limit that would bar Mr Compaore from standing in 2015 elections.
