The former Energy Secretary Chris Huhne, 58, and his former wife Vicky Pryce, 60, appeared before Mr Justice Sweeney at Southwark Crown Court after being convicted over swapping Mr Huhne’s speeding points a decade ago.
Sentencing them, the judge said: “No doubt you thought that you would get away with it. You did get away with it, for some eight years.”
He told Huhne, who hankered the lead the Liberal Democrats: “You have fallen from a great height.”
He told Huhne he had lied “again and again” and committed a “flagrant offence”, with no exceptional circumstances.
Pryce, who had revealed the secret to journalists from the Mail on Sunday and Sunday Times in a protracted campaign of revenge, had a “controlling, manipulative and devious side,” he said.
She had been “readily persuaded” into taking the points, he said.
