“In the fight for the family, the very notion of being – of what being human really means – is being called into question,” the Pope said in Italian during an end-of-year speech.
“The question of the family … is the question of what it means to be a man, and what it is necessary to do to be true men,” he said.
The Pope spoke of the “falseness” of gender theories and cited at length France’s chief Rabbi Gilles Bernheim, who has spoken out against gay marriage.
“Bernheim has shown in a very detailed and profoundly moving study that the attack we are currently experiencing on the true structure of the family, made up of father, mother, and child, goes much deeper,” he said.
He cited feminist gender theorist Simone de Beauvoir’s view to the effect that one is not born a woman, but one becomes so – that sex was no longer an element of nature but a social role people chose for themselves.
So, what is life like in the far outback of Australia?
This song shows just that, and from the perspective of the children living in the small town of Thargomindah in Outback Queensland in Australia.
This video was posted to You Tube by Bulloo Shire
The small town of Thargomindah is right out there in the Outback, as you can see on the map of Queensland. The town is around 700 miles due West of the State Capital Brisbane. It has a population of around 250 people. The town itself is on the banks of the Bulloo River, and it is an area known as The Channel Country, and you can only appreciate why they call it the Channel Country when you fly over it. Although it looks to be covered in what we refer to it in Australia as scrub, these vast red…

As soon as the radical Islamists took control of Tunisia last year, they attacked the one remaining synagogue in Tunis. Now this. During a televised broadcast of Islamic Jummah prayers at the end of November, a prominent Tunisian imam called for the “sterilization” of Jewish women because, according to him, “God wants to destroy this sprinkling of Jews.”
The Blaze (h/t liz) What’s more, his anti-Semitic sermon was delivered on a channel eerily dubbed “Hannibal TV.”
Now, the minority rights group, The Tunisian Association to Support Minorities, is suing Sheikh Ahmad Al-Suhayli for incitement.
Qais El-Beltagi, a lawyer representing the prosecution, maintains that the imam violated Tunisia’s 2011 decree which criminalizes “calls to hatred between races and religions, and the population.” He added that article 52 of the decree calls for “a prison term of between one and three years and a fine ranging from 500 to 1,000 euros” for hate-filled…

For years, decades actually, I and others have been shouting from the rooftops that global warming was a hoax. We were called “deniers” and “skeptics.” A lot of time has passed since the late 1980s when Dr. James Hansen, the director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, kicked off the global warming hoax with testimony before Congress.
Global warming gained momentum because the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) seized on it as a means to redistribute the wealth from developed nations to those that have lagged behind and because the media love stories of imminent danger. The media remains largely committed to global warming despite ample evidence it is (a) not happening and (b) a complete lie.
While many regard former Vice President Al Gore as the poster boy of global warming, it has been the IPCC that has been the main…

Manual warns soldiers in Afghanistan not to talk about certain subjects
“By mentioning that pedophilia and women’s rights and saying that soldiers should not mention such things they are tacitly admitting that those things are indeed part of Islam,” said Robert Spencer, founder of Jihad Watch.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a new 75-page Army manual suggests U.S. soldiers are to blame for the large number of deadly attacks on them by Afghan security forces. The manual reportedly says the soldiers may have brought the attacks on themselves because of insensitivity towards Islamic culture.
“Many of the confrontations occur because of [coalition] ignorance of, or lack of empathy for, Muslim and/or Afghan cultural norms…

Please see the follow-up to this letter at http://lisamyers.org/2012/12/31/a-follow-up-to-dear-america-from-a-teacher/.
It feels strange to hear your voice praising teachers for their selflessness, dedication, and love for their students. We’re listening to what you’re saying, but we must admit that we are listening with tilted head and quizzical eye. Why? Because we’ve become accustomed to hearing a very different voice from you.
For the past few years, you’ve been certain that most of society’s problems stem from our schools, more specifically the teachers in those schools. We are lazy and useless, we are only in it for the money, we only teach for the vacation time, we don’t possess the intelligence to teach anyone much of anything, our demands for a respectable wage are selfish, we don’t teach students respect, we are leeches sucking the blood from State coffers, we don’t even work a full day like everyone else, and…
