Thomas Jefferson.

(One or two of these may be disputed or not found.)

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

Thomas Jefferson.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

 Thomas Jefferson.

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it oes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

 Thomas Jefferson.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretence of taking care of them.

 Thomas Jefferson.

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

 Thomas Jefferson.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

Thomas Jefferson.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

 Thomas Jefferson.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrant.

 Thomas Jefferson.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

 Thomas Jefferson.

And finally, a very Interesting Quote n light of the present financial crisis, it’s interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

‘I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.’

Please send me, as a comment to this page, any old material you have for inclusion in The Daily Joke Alert - to help enable us all to have our fancy tickled regularly! Never mind the state it's in as I tidy everything up prior to publication. Don't let good material go to waste - and so much does. In the interests of the environment we should always try to re-cycle everything, especially jokes. You know that makes sense! You may find some historical stuff here, but this does not really matter as humor is fairly timeless.

  2. This applies all over the world nowadays, not just the US. Very true words about the financial situations we all face currently on a global scale. The Banks already own the world, so TJ would be greatly saddened that his warnings went unheeded I am sure.

  3. “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” This is what OWS is saying.

  4. Jefferson’s observations put into question the belief that time is a guarantor of maturity. Or that wisdom (as distinguished from knowledge) grows with each passing generation. In both regards, I suspect he would side with the Greeks in their brief encounter with “the future:” As depicted here: What He Didn’t See. 😉

    • Something in that.
By the way, I have tried several times to leave a comment on your blog but though it appears to be registering it is not shown there after the ‘save’; this happens on others as well. It was working properly until a few days ago. Any thoughts? (I have not yet had the time to work out how to Ask a Question on the Forum about this.)
